Two experts debate the (un)necessity of additions to the score.
Which side are you on? Do the markings on sheet music annoy you, or do you find them helpful for practice and recital? We invite you to listen in and join the discussion on the (un)necessity of fingerings and bowings in scholarly editions. We promise, no one will win or lose the debate.

Annette Oppermann and guests on the recent “easy” repertoire editions for violin and cello
For a long time only advanced string musicians were able to find literature in the Henle catalogue. But this has changed. Already several years ago Henle began to publish easy solo and duo literature for violin and violoncello – regardless to say, in standard Urtext quality, and with the help of experienced string instrument teachers: Evelyne Grüb-Trauer (violin) and Thomas Klein (violoncello). In an interview with Henle editor Annette Oppermann they share their ideas on fingerings and bowings in classical literature for beginners.

On revisions.
Urtext has no expiry date. But new discoveries sometimes make it inevitable that serious music publishers update their scores. Mozart and Chopin experts Wolf-Dieter Seiffert and Norbert Müllemann elucidate the necessity of "revising". They will play passages from Mozart's "Alla turca" Sonata and Chopin’s b-minor Sonata and demonstrate that the revised text indeed makes an audible difference!

Augustin Hadelich comments on some of the recent Henle editions he contributed to.
What does a world class violinist have to say about the Henle violin repertoire? Augustin Hadelich has been collaborating with Henle since 2017, providing fingerings and bowings for both the Henle Library App and Henle Urtext editions. He will look at various aspects of his own work, and show specific examples from Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy" and from DvoÅák's Violin Concerto, which recently came out as a piano reduction. If you own the music books or have these works on your tablet device, be sure to keep them at hand.

Find out how this huge task is tackled in a talk between Henle’s Online Marketing Manager Anne Bauknecht and Carolin Kaiser, Senior Digital Strategy & Online Marketing Manager at the classical music label BerlinClassics.
